Indicator Overview: Main | Principles | Outcome The indicators emerge from a three-step process beginning with community assets and concerns identified by citizens. Assets are those characteristics and qualities that citizens would like to maintain or improve over the next 10 years. Concerns are characteristics and problems that citizen's identified as important to solve over the next 10 years. The Civic Leader Group adds to and refines the list of citizen-defined assets and concerns identified in the 10 parish citizen survey related to the economy, environment and society. This includes adding considerations of a regional or global nature. The Technical Advisors may also provide some input to this phase. The next phase begins with the Civic Leader Group developing a list of indicators that could be used to monitor progress in the assets and concerns. These indicators do not necessarily directly measure the condition, but more often measure some proxy for it. In some cases more than one community asset or concern may be reflected in the indicator. The Technical Advisors provide input as to the nature of data available for the suggested indicators, also the appropriateness of the indicators and valid analyses. The final phase of the process consists mainly of selecting the final set of indicators such that a small but robust set is identified that reflects the valued conditions individually and together. During this phase a public focus group will review the indicators relative to the assets and concerns identified at the beginning of the project. Their feedback will be incorporated into the final report.
